The Ada Project: Tapping Internet Resources for Women in Computer Science

The Ada Project (TAP) is a WWW site designed to serve as a clearinghouse for information and resources relating to women in computing. The goal of TAP is to provide a central location through which these resources can be "tapped." TAP includes information on conferences, projects, discussion groups and organizations, fellowships and grants, notable women in Computer Science, and other electronically accessible information sites. TAP also maintains a substantive bibliography of references. TAP is an official project of the ACM Committee on the Status of Women in Computing.


American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education

AACTE has published A Select Directory of Members Involved in Gender Equity Programs, summaries of institutions' reports on 81 education faculty members' work on gender equity in schools, communities, colleges, and universities. Faculty members highlight gender issues through teaching, acting as role models, conducting research, publishing books and articles, producing conferences, presenting workshops, activities in Women's Studies programs, and/or serving on college/university and state committees on gender.

Equity in Mathematics Education Leadership Institute

Integrating Gender Equity and Reform (InGEAR)

Three-year, collaborative project of five Georgia Universities funded by the National Science Foundation. The project has two main objectives: To initiate and implement the redesign of teacher preparation programs by integrating equity into courses on content and pedagogy as well as field experiences in science, engineering and mathematics education; and to provide professional development opportunities for faculty at teacher education colleges.


International Organization for Women in Mathematics Education (IOWME)

An international organization for women involved in mathematics education. Meets every four years in conjunction with the International Congress on Mathematical Education. Most recent meeting was in July, 1996 in Seville, Spain. Next meeting will be in the year 2000 in Japan.

Science and Math Equity (SAME)

Researchers at UCSC have launched this three-year study that involves students, parents, teachers, and administrators from local schools in a comprehensive attempt to encourage girls to study and excel in science and math by making the subjects interesting, building school and family support, and using innovative classroom techniques to spark students' enthusiasm.


The Teacher Education Equity Project

Center for Advanced Study of Education, City University of New York Graduate Center.

A three-year (1993-96) collaborative project with 60 professors of education in science, mathematics, and technology at 38 colleges and universities in 26 states to redress the scarcity of attention to gender equity in the preparation of teacher educators in these fields. Plans to prepare three activity books for math, science, and technology teacher-educators.


University of Wisconsin Women and Science Program

A collaborative visiting professorship, curricular and faculty development program in gender and the sciences. The ultimate goal of the program is to attract and retain qualified female and minority students in science, mathematics, and engineering by improving the quality of undergraduate science education for both women and men through faculty development activities. Vermont Pilot Project

Three Gender Equity Pilot Schools received funds to implement intervention strategies that would increase opportunities for girls. One school offers an elective equity course to students. Women And Mathematics, Mathematical Association of America

A program for winning women into mathematics administered by the Mathematical Association of America. WAM is an advising and mentoring program whose purpose is to stimulate interest in mathematics among all students, regardless of their career choices. Women in Science and Engineering Program

The goal of the Women in Science and Engineering Program (WISE) is to increase the number of women students who choose majors, advanced degrees, and careers in science, engineering and mathematics (SEM). The WISE program seeks to ensure that every woman with the potential and interest in such a career has the necessary background and support to pursue these interests, from pre-school through graduate school.
