This feminist introduction to using computers is designed for people who have found other introductory computer courses unfriendly. This course includes practical hands-on work with microcomputers, electronic mail, and on-line information systems. Implications of the electronic age of information and societal issues such as "Why are there so few female computer scientists?" are addressed through a variety of readings.


Female Friendly Science: Including Women in Curricular Content and Pedagogy

Outlines a six-phase model for transforming curriculum and pedagogy in the sciences to include women and people of color. The six-phase model presented in this paper demonstrates the steps which might be taken to transform a science curriculum in which the absence of women and people of color is not noted (phase I) to an inclusive curriculum (phase VI).


A Framework for Infusing Gender Equity into Preservice Teacher Education Programs-- An Integrated, Multicultural Strategy for curriculum Enhancement

Girl Power!

A national public education campaign sponsored by Health and Human Services to help encourage and empower 9- to 14-year-old girls to make the most of their lives. In its first phase, the campaign will focus on preventing alcohol, tobacco, and illicit drug use among girls. Subsequent phases will address related issues such as premature sexual activity, physical activity, nutrition, and mental health.


Lewis and Clark College Gender Studies Program (Portland, Oregon)

Established a fifth-year Master of Arts in Teaching Program in 1984 incorporating the history, traditions and contributions of women as well as men, plus international and intercultural perspectives. Blending liberal arts and professional education courses, the program features a core curriculum that brings all graduate school students together in courses and shorter seminars. Issues on women and gender are infused throughout this curriculum.

Vermont Pilot Project

Three Gender Equity Pilot Schools received funds to implement intervention strategies that would increase opportunities for girls. One school offers an elective equity course to students.
