COE Highlights

Four Finalists to Visit College Over Next Few Weeks

Four finalists have been chosen in a national search for a new dean of the University of Georgia College of Education. They will visit UGA over the next three weeks to meet with faculty, staff and students in the college and with university administrators. The finalists, and the dates of their visits, are:

- Steven R. Yussen, a professor and director of undergraduate studies and the Honors Program in the Institute of Child Development at the University of Minnesota, April 29-30;

- Marilyn Newhoff, dean of the College of Health and Human Services at San Diego State University, May 1-2;

- Richard L. Hayes, dean of the College of Education at the University of South Alabama, May 5-6; and

- Fayneese S. Miller, dean of the College of Education and Social Services at the University of Vermont, May 8-9.

COE Spring Semester Convocation 2008

Two convocation ceremonies for graduates will be held at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2008 in the Hugh Hodgson Concert Hall of the Performing Arts Center. See details to determine the time of your department's ceremony. The Michael J. Hendrickson Academic Support Fund in Recreation and
Leisure Studies

Michael Jeffrey Hendrickson was a student in the 2006-2007 Recreation and Leisure Studies undergraduate learning community and a friend to all he met. The UGA senior died suddenly on December 1st, 2007 of a severe bacterial infection. Michael’s loving spirit illuminated this program and he is sorely missed.

In his memory, the College of Education is proud to announce the establishment of the Michael J. Hendrickson Academic Support Fund in the Recreation and Leisure Studies Program. To download a contribution form to Michael’s fund, please click here.
