All eligible applications will be reviewed by regional (southern African, Latin American, U.S.A.) selection committees composed of project staff members and regional representatives. These committees will determine the finalists who will be scheduled for a personal interview. Primary criteria for selection will be the applicant's demonstrated potential for making a scholarly contribution to the field of adult education and the quality of the proposed project.

Interviews with finalists will be conducted by regional selection committees. Anticipated interview dates are:

November 2-4, 2001 Johannesburg, South Africa
November 2-4, 2001 Mexico City, Mexico
November 9-11, 2001 Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A

Finalists are required to participate in an interview within their region on the date and in the location arranged by the project staff. Travel expenses for the interview will be reimbursed in accordance with the Cyril O. Houle Scholars in Adult and Continuing Education Program guidelines.

Finalists who are selected to be Houle Scholars will be notified no later than December 3, 2001.
