Admission Requirements

In order to be eligible for the B.S. Ed. Program in Secondary Science Education, there are several necessary requirements. These include:

  1. Minimum GPA of 2.5 with 60 hours of transferable credit.

  2. Grade of C or better in the following pre-requisites
    -BIOL 1107-1107L (GPC course # BIOL 2107-2107L)
    -BIOL 1108-1108L (GPC course # BIOL 2108-2108L)
    -CHEM 1211-1211L (GPC course # is the same)
    -CHEM 1212-1212L (GPC course # is the same)
    -CHEM 2211-2211L (GPC course # CHEM 2641-2641L)
    -MATH 2200-200L (GPC course # MATH 2431)
    -EFND 2030 (GPC course # EDUC 1603)
    -EPSY 2020 (GPC course # PSYC 2020)

    *PHYS 1111-1111L and 1112-1112L must be taken prior to graduation from UGA, however, they are not necessary to enter the program.

  3. Completion of Areas A-F with the exception of Physics

  4. Completion of requirements for Praxis I either by test or exemption. (Please see www.coe.uga.edu/admission.html for more information. Under the certification heading, click on testing requirements for up-to-date information.)

  5. Completion of 25 hours of pre-professional experience. Each student must document their participation in at least two different experiences in organized educational settings with school age children with a combined duration of at least 25 hours. The experiences must have been completed within the last 5 years, and one must be instructional. Examples of experiences for the pre-professional experience requirement include: summer camp counselor, coach of organized team sport, religious instruction, day care instruction, formal observation of school classrooms, tutoring, work with community agencies involved with the care of children and/or adolescents, substitute teaching, teacher's aide, and youth group leader.
