Apalachee High School Teacher of the Year, Barbara Greyson
For our final issue of GSTEP News, we could not find a more suitable
person to profile than Barbara Greyson, a truly amazing teacher
from Barrow County, one of our GSTEP partner school systems. Her
initial involvement with GSTEP began when she served as an original
member of the GSTEP Beginning Teacher Panel which assisted with
the initial development of the BRIDGE. Barbara was recently honored
as Appalachee High School Teacher of the Year and is a key player
in efforts to take GSTEP and the BRIDGE into the future. Read on

Support for teacher induction has undergone major
changes for the six schools districts of Barrow, Clarke, Jackson,

The
Continuing Evolution of an Induction Program: GSTEP in Barrow
County Schools
Before GSTEP, mentoring and induction were synonymous
terms, but through the grant, Barrow has been provided with the
leadership and funding to think creatively about induction and

have grown substantially since the inception of GSTEP. Thanks

Taking GSTEPs To Address The Foreign
Language Teacher Shortage
The Foreign Language GSTEP Curriculum Team has taken
steps in the right direction with some thoughtful plans to turn
around the shortage of foreign language teachers by recruiting
more foreign language majors to consider teaching as a career. Read

What Helps Students Succeed?: Lessons
from Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School
Why do some high schools consistently have high rates
for student academic achievement? What educational lessons can
be drawn from these schools' practice? To answer these questions,
the GSTEP Fine Arts Curriculum Team initiated a study of John S.
Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School in Augusta, Georgia, as a model

The BRIDGE Between Preparation and
Induction
The BRIDGE has continued to grow and develop with

GSTEP at Valdosta State University
The GSTEP initiative at VSU has had an active, productive,
and professionally rewarding year. Our seven sub-committees worked
diligently to address the GSTEP goals and objectives for Year 5
and have significantly improved the quality of teacher candidates
in our region as well as the academic achievement of the students

GSTEP at Albany State University
During the past 5 years, ASU has made many changes
in curriculum, early school experiences, and curriculum reform
aimed at improving education in southwest Georgia through teacher
