The UGA Semester in Ghana Study Abroad Student Exchange Program is with the University of Cape Coast (UCC) in Cape Coast, Ghana (West Africa). The program is designed so that students can become immersed in the community and their studies for a sustained period of time. It will provide an in-depth experience as students study in a long-term program and help to contextualize students’ work and the entire program. Students will develop familiarity to Ghana and the Ghanaian culture.
Undergraduate students in any College at UGA can participate in this program. Students from UGA will take all of their courses for the semester at UCC and taught by Ghanaian faculty; no faculty from UGA will teach during the semester at UCC.
The semester exchange program appeals to students in their 3rd or 4th year of study. With an exchange program, students can take required courses in the context and apply them to their majors; courses will count toward requirements for graduation.
The inception of the exchange program is fall every year. The program is expected to run both fall and spring semesters thereafter.
