Common Questions

1. May I take more than two of the GCTWeb classes during the same term?

No. You may take two of the GCTWeb courses and receive credit as long as:
  1. space permits and you receive approval to enroll by the instructor; and
  2. your departmental advisor has approved this as part of your program of study (if applicable).
Note: EPSY 7110 is the pre-requisite for all other courses in the sequence. You will not be eligible to take EPSY 7060, 7250, or 7230 without EPSY 7110
2. How will GCTWeb be scheduled?
Go to: http://www.coe.uga.edu/gctweb/schedule.html
3. Has GCTWeb been approved by Georgia Professional Standards Commission?
Yes. The UGA Program of study has been approved.
4. Are all of the courses, conferences, etc. required?
GCTWeb allows some, but not unlimited, flexibility in program planning.
5. Can I just enroll for the courses listed in my letter from the Professional Standards Commission?
Students who enroll in a cohort are expected to complete the sequence. We are not able to recommend you for certification unless you complete the entire GCTWeb program of study or complete the comparable courses on campus. However, by fulfilling the requirements stated in your letter, you can apply for certification without our recommendation. Your intentions should be made known when applying to participate in the cohort.
6. What will GCTWeb cost?
Fees are listed at the following address
http://www.uga.edu/gradschool/financial/tuition.html

Note, all fees are subject to change by the University of Georgia.
7. How do I apply?
If you are not currently enrolled as a UGA graduate student, immediately apply to the University of Georgia's Graduate School for admission as an Educational Psychology Non-Degree (ND) student OR to a degree program. Information on the University of Georgia's degree program in Gifted Education can be reviewed at http://www.coe.uga.edu/epit/gce/index.html.

An electronic application package for UGA can be completed on-line at:
https://app.applyyourself.com/?id=uga-g.

In order to participate in GCTWeb, you must be admitted to the University of Georgia's Graduate School an Educational Psychology Non-Degree (ND) student OR be enrolled in a UGA graduate program. Graduate Admissions can also be contacted at:
Voice: 706-542-1787 Fax: 706-542-9480
Email: gradadm@uga.edu
The following paragraph, taken from the Graduate School Bulletin governs non-degree applications:
Applicants who do not intend to pursue a degree but who wish to take courses for professional advancement, licensure, or certification purposes, and who hold a baccalaureate degree or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution, should apply for non-degree status. Applicants must submit the following to the Office of Graduate Admissions: the general application for admission, a $50 application-processing fee, two official copies of transcripts from the institution which awarded the highest degree, and a statement of purpose. (The statement of purpose should state Educational Psychology Endorsement -Gifted Education)
8. Will GCTWeb courses count in my degree program?
A student who takes courses non-degree may subsequently transfer up to nine hours of credit (i.e. 3 courses) into a graduate degree program at the University of Georgia, subject to the approval of the advisor. Courses taken on a non-degree basis may not be included in a program of study for the Specialist in Education degree at the University of Georgia. Students pursuing a graduate degree at another institution must check with the institution where they are pursuing their degree.

Students should note that participation in the GCTWeb program on a non-degree basis does not constitute admission to the master's degree or any other graduate degree program at the University of Georgia. Further, GCTWeb participation does not assure students that they will subsequently be admitted to a graduate degree program at the University of Georgia.
9. Will GCTWeb become a graduate degree program?
At present, no complete degree programs are being offered via distance education by the Department of Educational Psychology. However, such programs may be developed in the future. GCTWeb students are encouraged to consider complete degree programs at the University of Georgia.
10. Who Should I Contact About the GCTWeb Program?
Dr. Tarek Grantham is the contact person for GCTWeb. He can be contacted at grantham@uga.edu.
11. What courses are required for endorsement in gifted education?
