Gifted In-Field Endorsement

505-2-.105 GIFTED-IN-FIELD

  1. To add Gifted In-field, an applicant shall:
    1. possess a professional certificate at the bachelor's or higher certification level in any teaching field, in the service field of School Counselor or the leadership field of Educational Leadership, provided that a teaching field prerequisite has been established;
    2. have completed an approved program in the field per Rule 505-2-.06 or have an out-of-state certificate in the field per Rule 505-2-.15.
  2. In-Field Statement. An individual with the Gifted In-Field endorsement is in-field to provide direct instruction to gifted students only in the field(s) of his or her valid teaching certificate or to serve as a facilitator of gifted in grades P-12. Individuals holding a Gifted endorsement (K-12) prior to July 1, 1991, may continue to renew the Gifted P-12 endorsement and be in-field to teach gifted in grades P-12.

The following four courses are required for endorsement in gifted education:

  • EPSY 7110 Characteristics of Gifted Children and Youth
  • EPSY 7060 Assessment of Gifted Children and Youth
  • EPSY 7250 Program and Curriculum Development for the Gifted
  • EPSY 7230 Strategies and Materials for the Gifted

The following elective course can be taken independently or in conjunction with other GCTWeb courses.

  • EPSY 8160 Retention of Ethnic Minorities for Gifted and Advanced Programs
  • EPSY 8160 Recruitment of Under-represented Groups for Advanced Programs
