Requirements for Participation in the Georgia Children's Book Award Program
- The principal will support the children, teachers, and library-media specialist in their participation in the Georgia Children's Book Award Programs.
- The media center should have available for circulation during the fall at least twelve of the twenty titles nominated for the Award Program(s) in which the school is participating.
- Children in the primary grades (grades K-4), whose classroom teachers have agreed to take part in promoting the Program, are eligible to vote if they have read, or have heard read aloud, at least ten of the books from the list of nominees. *
- Children in the upper-elementary grades (grades 4-8), whose classroom teachers have agreed to take part in promoting the Program, are eligible to vote if they have read, or have heard read aloud, at least three of the books from the list of nominees. *
- Participating teachers will devote a reasonable amount of time to classroom activities which will promote the Program.
- Participating teachers will encourage every eligible child to vote for his or her particular favorite, will make a tally of individual votes, and will report the outcome to the library-media specialist.
- Teachers and library-media specialists will join efforts to make the Program a truly co-sponsored adventure in good reading for the children.
- The library-media specialist will coordinate the Program and will support it by library-centered activities and by aiding cooperating teachers in their efforts.
- The library-media specialist will be responsible for submitting votes electronically.
* Children in the fourth grade may vote on either list but not both.
