Development Programs

The University offers a variety of faculty opportunities for the purpose of gaining valuable knowledge and experience in the area of academic leadership and career development. The following opportunities are available for faculty:

Study in a Second Discipline

The Program of Study in a Second Discipline is a University  program that offers faculty an opportunity to extend their scholarship through study in a separate field for one academic year. Awards are limited to a maximum of four Fellows per academic year. The Senior VPAA and Provost will provide $20,000 in funds to the home units of the Fellows. These funds may be expended as the unit chooses.

This paperwork should be processed through the AD for Faculty & Finance Office.

State of the Art Conference

State of the Art Conference is a University program that provides the faculty the opportunity to organize a conference of from eight to fifteen world experts that will be held on the University of Georgia campus and that will facilitate interaction between the world expert conferees and University of Georgia faculty and students.

Paperwork should be processed through AD for Research Office.

Project Promote

The Project Promote portal web site is designed to help address this situation by acting as a mentoring community for new faculty. The website connects faculty to many resources, but the anchor resource of the site is the Question & Answer Center, where early career faculty can post questions and a select group of senior faculty respond to these questions. Early career faculty are given the option to choose, when posting a question, whether to reveal their identity or other parts of their user profile. Senior faculty, on the other hand, are always identified when they post responses. At the present time, participating senior faculty are drawn from the ranks of the UGA Teaching Academy.

Sarah Moss Fellowship

The purpose of the Sarah Moss Fellowship, funded through a bequest from the estate of Miss Sarah H. Moss, is to provide young University of Georgia faculty a “broad outlook and acquaintance with conditions and standards in other parts of the world. . . .” Funding is normally available in amounts of up to $10,000 and may include subsistence for family members. The award may be made twice. Additional support funds from the nominee’s department are desirable.
