Purpose and Description


Title: Glickman Faculty Fellow Award
Purpose: The College of Education Faculty Fellow Award was established in 1997 to recognize distinguished accomplishments and potential for future contributions of faculty in fulfilling the mission of the University through teaching, research, and service. The name of the award was changed to the Glickman Faculty Fellow Award in honor of Carl Glickman, retired University Professor Emeritus College of Education, University of Georgia.
Deadlines: All nominations should be submitted to the Office of the Associate Dean for Research by noon on January 17. Should this date fall on a weekend or holiday, nominations should be submitted the next working day.
Eligibility: Nominees must be current College of Education faculty at the associate level at the time they are nominated.  Academic and service professionals are eligible. Current members of the Faculty Senate Awards Committee are not eligible.
Recognition: This award was made possible by private gifts from current and retired faculty and friends of the College. The recipient of the award receives a plaque and a grant for professional development. The recipient of the award is named “College of Education Glickman Faculty Fellow” and retains the title for one year.

Application Procedures and Documentation


An individual nomination may be made by one or more faculty colleagues. The nominee’s work must demonstrate distinguished accomplishments in two of the three areas of the University’s mission of teaching, research, and service. The documentation must provide clear evidence that past work has potential for future contribution. It will be the responsibility of the nominator(s) to assemble a full dossier on the nominee.

The dossier should contain:

  • a cover sheet (Glickman Faculty Fellow Cover Sheet APRIL 2012 REVISION);
  • a letter signed by a colleague (no more than two pages, single-spaced with typeface no smaller than 11-point) describing the nominee’s distinguished accomplishments and potential for future contributions in two of the three areas of the University’s mission of teaching, research, and service;
  • the nominee’s current vita (no more than six pages, single-spaced with typeface no smaller than 11-point); and
  • the names of two people who could provide a reference.

Please submit the application as a PDF file electronically via email attachment to gmason@uga.edu or PDF file on CD sent through campus mail to the Associate Dean for Research Office, c/o Faculty Awards Committee Secretary.

Please name the nomination file as [Last Name]_[First Name]_GFFA.  For example, the nomination for John Smith for Glickman Faculty Fellow Award would be named as “Smith_John_GFFA.” Please label all separate attachments clearly.

Evaluation Criteria and Procedures


  • The Faculty Senate Awards Committee will be the review and selection body for this award.
  • Decisions will be based solely on the selection criteria contained in the nomination packet.
  • The Committee reserves the right not to recommend an award, if no nominations are acceptable.
