Committees - University Committees
Description
Each University Council Standing Committee has different responsibilities. The chart below does not list all University Council Standing Committees. See theUniversity Council Bylaws for a description of each committee.
Composition
The composition of each standing committee varies. As indicated in the chart below, the COE elects members to some committees, and COE members on the University Council elect representatives from that group to others. See the University Council bylaws for the composition of each committee.
Term The following was taken from the University Council Bylaws in 2006.
“Except where stated otherwise in the bylaws, faculty membership on standing committees shall be for staggered two-year terms. Student members may serve one term and be eligible for re-election if re-elected to the Council. The term of membership on Council committees by elected non-council members shall be specified by the respective school or college.”

Reminders for this committee next year:
- There is no Graduate Faculty Appointment and Reappointment Committee
- For committees that have one representative from each department, don’t put that on the ballot – just get the representative (Awards, Curriculum).
- Read the requirements for each committee carefully, especially UGA committees. For example, the nominee for most UGA committees must be on University Council the year they begin serving (the current “nominating” year doesn’t count – they have to be on next year too). Work with Associate Deans Marshall and Hoy on these nominations.
- The COE Curriculum Committee members must be on Graduate Faculty.
