Promotion & Tenure

Description

The Promotion and Tenure Committee is a Special Committee of the Faculty Senate. It represents the Faculty in a fair, appropriate, professional, and objective manner as it considers faculty applications for promotion and tenure and makes recommendations to the Dean according to the University of Georgia’s Guidelines for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure. The work of this Committee’s is brief but intense and, since it significantly affects the careers of Faculty, is a high priority for committee members. Composition

9 tenured full professors, one from each Department, and 2 tenured associate professors from the College at large appointed by the Dean in consultation with the Faculty Senate President from a slate of candidates presented by the Faculty Senate. Names of committee members are revealed in the Committee Chair’s report to the Senate at its last meeting of the year. The Dean or the Dean’s designee is an ex-officio, non–voting member of the Committee.

Term

Professors serve staggered a 2-year term, and Associate Professors serve a 1-year term.
