Academic Appeals
Description – The Academic Appeals Committee is a Standing Committee of the Faculty Senate. The Committee hears and acts upon appeals cases involving graduate and undergraduate student courses and programs that cannot be resolved at the Department level. Composition – 5 faculty members from different Departments, 3 elected by College faculty and 2 appointed by the Director of Student Services from Departments that have teacher certification programs or undergraduate majors. Department Heads may not serve on this Committee.

Curriculum
Description – The Curriculum Committee is a Standing Committee of the Faculty Senate. It makes recommendations to the Dean on graduate and undergraduate curricular matters. See the Faculty Senate Bylaws for a complete description.
Composition – 9 members with Graduate Faculty status from different Departments elected by College faculty. Three members must represent undergraduate programs.

Scholarship
Description – The Scholarship Committee is a Standing Committee of the Faculty Senate. It selects recipients for scholarships awarded to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the College. See the Faculty Senate Bylaws for a complete description.
Composition – 5 members including 4 faculty members from different Departments elected by College faculty and 1 student member appointed by the Director of Student Services.

Awards
Description – The Awards Committee is a Special Committee of the Faculty Senate. It selects nominees and/or recipients for awards in teaching, research, and service that are sponsored by the College and the University of Georgia. See the Faculty Senate Bylaws for a complete description.
Composition – 9 members, one from each Department, appointed by the Dean in consultation with the Faculty Senate President from a slate of candidates presented by the Faculty Senate. Previous award recipients are expected to serve on this Committee.

Nominating
Description – The Nominating Committee solicits nominations and oversees elections for Officers of the Faculty Senate, The Faculty Senate Steering Committee, Standing Committees of the Faculty Senate, and University Committees on which the College has representatives. It also prepares slates of candidates for Faculty Senate Special Committees for the Dean’s consideration. See the Faculty Senate Bylaws for a complete description.
Composition – 6 faculty members from different Departments elected by College faculty.

University Committees
University Council
Description – The University Council exercises legislative power on matters of general educational policy and, consistent with Policies of the Board of Regents, makes rules and regulations it deems necessary for the promotion of the educational interests of the University. See the University Council Bylaws for a complete description.
Composition – Each school/college has representatives proportional to the number of faculty in all the University’s schools and colleges. Since at least 2005, the COE has had 11 members on the University Council. Any member of the faculty with academic rank is eligible. Though the University Council makes no recommendation in this regard, the Faculty Senate recommends that the College’s representatives be distributed across the various departments.
