Research & Outreach - The ESSE Study Abroad Program


Course Information:

Undergraduates: 3 hours of course credit for EDEC 4020 or EDECC 4040. Undergraduates in other majors have several options which will be determined by academic advisors upon registration.

Graduates: 3 hours of course credit for EDEC 6000 and/or 3 hours of course credit for ESSE 6000 (graduates have the option of 3 or 6 hours)

The major focus of both courses will be inquiry about professional growth and development in teaching. In particular, how education is influenced by cultural pluralism. The students will be taught on the site in Modena, Italy, so that students will be immersed in the country’s social, cultural and educational environments. The students will observe, teach and collaborate with educators and children in Italian schools. They will develop basic skills to communicate in Italian with families and students in educational and social settings.
