The Red Clay Writing Project is a local site of the National Writing Project and has been providing professional learning opportunities for teachers in northeast Georgia since 2003. Driven by the core beliefs that the best teachers of teachers are teachers and that writing teachers are writers, Red Clay offers an annual Summer Institute for up to twenty teachers every June. We also offer professional learning workshops for area schools, which highlight teaching reading and writing through inquiry with attention toward teacher leadership and promoting social justice. Beyond that, teachers associated with Red Clay, known as teacher consultants, stay active within the organization through conferences, writing marathons and retreats, teacher research, project leadership, and Red Clay sponsored publications.
