Undergraduate Degree and Certification Program
Middle School Education for 4-8 Certification: The B.S.Ed. Program
The Middle School Program mission is to prepare teachers to meet the academic, interpersonal, and intrapersonal needs of young adolescents. Our work is framed by commitments to social justice, equity, and the empowerment of young people as change agents in their schools and communities.
The Middle School Program is responsible for the planning and oversight of programs leading to teacher certification in the middle grades (grades 4-8). The Middle School Education program is planned in cooperation with the content area departments in the College of Education and with the relevant departments in the College of Arts and Sciences. Graduates earn certification in two areas based on their area of emphasis. Students select one of the following areas of emphasis:
- Language Arts and Science
- Language Arts and Social Studies
- Mathematics and Language Arts
- Mathematics and Science
- Social Studies and Mathematics
- Science and Social Studies
B.S.Ed. Admission
To be considered for the bachelor’s program, students must be admitted to the University of Georgia and must apply to the Middle School Education program following the admissions process detailed here.
