The Department of Elementary Education has merged with the Department of Social Science Education. The new combined department is called the Department of Elementary and Social Studies Education.
The 2007 U.S. News and World Report rankings of graduate programs ranked the Elementary Education program third in the nation. Secondary education programs at UGA, in which the Social Studies Education program from the department is included, were ranked 5th among America's Best Graduate Schools.
