- Language-Rich Inquiry Science with English Language Learners through Biotechnology (LISELL-B)
This 4-year full research and development project addresses the Teaching Strand of the DRK-12 program by transforming a pedagogical model of language rich science inquiry that was developed in an NSF-funded exploratory project with middle school teachers to include high school teachers. This will enable us to focus on teaching as it influences students in the critical transition period from middle to high school. The proposed project will work with teachers and students in grades 7-10 with a science focus on life and physical sciences through an emphasis on biotechnology as a critical STEM field. The overall project goal is to support the teaching of science and engineering practices and academic language development to all students, with an emphasis on the needs of English language learners (ELLs).
