Technology


Technology is incorporated into instruction in the GCE program in various ways. Students are introduced to computer searches of the literature in EPSY 6990/8990, EPSY 7110, and EPSY 9630; use applicable technologies in EPSY 9710 and 9810; review appropriate software in EPSY 7230; use data analysis packages in their ERSH classes; and learn through integrated technologies in classes.

Technology Performance Standards for GCE Students:

1. All GCE students will be able to show proficiency in using the programs that students commonly use in the schools.

Ancillary Standards – Students will be:

Familiar with appropriate instructional programs.
Able to debug simple programs.
Able to evaluate the appropriateness of commercial programs.

2. All GCE students will be able to show proficiency in a number of technological skills related to the kinds of research the students they instruct will be doing.

Ancillary Standards – Students will be able to:

Explain and conduct data-base searches.
Explain and conduct simple statistical procedures from statistical packages.
Explain and use presentation technology.
Explain and use spread sheets.
Explain and use calculators of varying sophistication.

3. All M.A., Ed. S.. and Doctoral students will be able to use at least one of the statistical packages to do statistical analyses and interpret printouts from different statistical packages at their level of expertise.

Ancillary Standards – All designated students will be able to:

Demonstrate their familiarity with the most common statistical packages for use in the social sciences.
Read and interpret results from printouts from some of the most common statistical packages in the social sciences.
Use at least one of the statistical packages to do statistical analyses.
