In addition to periodic evaluations that occur during each student’s progress toward a degree in Gifted and Creative Education, there will be annual formative evaluations.
Annual evaluation
The GCE faculty will evaluate all graduate students each Spring Semester on the previous calendar year’s work (January 1 – December 31). Based on the student’s progress in the program, the faculty will then make one of three recommendations:
1. The student may continue in the program;
2. Assignments must be successfully completed by the student within a specified time frame in order to continue in the program; or
3. The student should withdraw from the program.
Students do a self-assessment of their progress in the categories listed below and submit supporting documentation. Faculty review the self-assessment and supporting documentation, and may provide feedback on any student in the GCE program. The student’s advisor is responsible for providing written feedback to the student.
Categories for Annual Evaluation:
1. Career Goals
2. Coursework
3. Publications
4. Presentations
5. Professional Involvement through the Department, Torrance Center, or GCE Program
6. Assistantship Work
7. Practicum/Internship Experiences
8. Other Professional Development
9. Positive and productive dispositions and attitudes; professional deportment; responsiveness to professional feedback; and ethical behavior as designated by the COE, NCATE, and APA
10. Overall Progress Rating
