PROSPECTIVE EPIT GRADUATE STUDENTS - Financial & Student Support

Admissions |

Financial Assistance

The Department of Educational Psychology and Instructional Technology has between 5 and 10 graduate assistantships per year for Ph.D. students. University fellowships, assistantships, and out-of-state resident fee waivers are available on a university-wide competitive basis. Other opportunities for financial assistance include research assistantships and teaching assistantships. Doctoral students are assisted in securing funded positions for their internship year. Inquiries regarding graduate assistantships, fellowships, and tuition waivers should be made to the Graduate Coordinator of the department; inquiries for other forms of financial assistance should be directed to: Financial Aid Office, 220 Academic Building, The University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia 30602. Historically, the majority of doctoral students have received financial assistance.

Degree recipients who practice in the public schools of Georgia may be eligible for partial remission of state loans since school psychology is a critical shortage area in Georgia.

Academic Advisement

Students who are not well acquainted with the faculty prior to their arrival will be assigned a temporary advisor by the School Psychology Steering Committee. Students are expected to choose a permanent advisor during their first year.

Housing

Housing is available at the University for individuals, couples, and families. Space is limited and requests for on-campus housing should be submitted early.

Student Support Sevices

Students have access to the University of Georgia’s Office of Student Support Services, which offers an entry point to a wide range of University services. The mission of the Office of Student Support Services is to provide assistance to students experiencing financial hardship circumstances, support to students in distress, and guidance to students seeking assistance. To that end, the Office of Student Support Services:

  • Educates students and faculty about policies and procedures relevant to specific situations;
  • Facilitates the referral to and promotes the utilization of existing campus and community resources;
  • Promotes students’ development of self-advocacy, communication, and problem-solving skills,
  • Demonstrates sensitivity and regard for students’ privacy concerns and confidentiality; and
  • Advocates for the development and application of student-centered policies and procedures.
