The School Psychology Program has been in existence since 1966. For persons receiving the Ph.D. degree, approximately 15% take university positions as researchers and teachers, 49% take applied positions in educational settings, and 36% work in a variety of settings including hospitals, clinics, agencies, and in private practice.  In 2007, program graduates obtained assistant professor positions at Texas A & M, University of Memphis, University of California Santa Barbara, and Fordham University.

Complete applications are due on or before December 15 for entry the following Fall term.

Admission Requirements

Minimum requirements for admission to the Ph.D. program in School Psychology include the following:

Initial student selection from all applicants is by the School Psychology Steering Committee. Final acceptance is granted by the Graduate School. Approximately five new Ph.D. students enter the program annually. At least three persons are selected as alternates in the admission process, so that they may be selected should one or more of the initially admitted decline admission. Selections are made annually, with selected persons entering in the Fall semester.  Undergraduate institutions include Harvard University, University of Ljubljana, University of Montpellier, Shanghai Jio Tong University, The University of Georgia, Hampton University, Wake Forest, University of North Carolina, and Notre Dame.  Demographics of these students are 83% female, 17% male, 8% are native speakers of a language other than English, and 6.8% are U.S. born cultural minorities. Minorities and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply, as are individuals from disciplines other than psychology.  For other information about entering cohorts and program graduates, please see http://www.coe.uga.edu/epit/spy/table_2007.pdf.

Prerequisites for admission include undergraduate or graduate coursework in tests and/or measurement and introductory statistics.
