Here is a step-by-step account of how to apply to the SLM Program:

  1. Be sure that the SLM program is right for you by reviewing the information on our web site. You should contact slmedia@uga.edu if you have any general questions or concerns. You may also contact SLM faculty with questions or just to talk about your goals and whether our program is right for you.

  2. If you decide to apply, all forms including an application and recommendation letters can be obtained online from the UGA Graduate School Web site. You may also request that an application package be sent to you by contacting the Graduate School at (706) 542-1739 or gradadm@uga.edu. There is also a complete on-line version of the UGA Graduate Bulletin.

  3. Complete the application form o nline and submit the $50 fee directly to the Graduate School Admissions Office.

  4. Contact every college you attended and have them send two official transcripts directly to:

    Office of Admissions
    The University of Georgia
    Graduate school
    320 E. Clayton St., Suite 400
    Athens, Georgia 30602-4401

  5. Take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) and attain acceptable test scores on the verbal and quantitative sections (individually and combined). These scores must be sent directly by the Educational Testing Service to the Graduate School Admission Office. GRE scores must be 5 years old or less. Further information concerning the GRE can be found on the GRE Web site. To schedule an appointment to take the GRE at UGA, please call (706) 542-3183. International students must also submit an acceptable TOEFL score.

  6. Submit a Goal Statement that explains in detail (1-2 pages) your background, your goals and why you are interested in the degree program to which you are applying (i.e. how your goals match up). Please specify whether you are seeking an M.Ed., Ed.S., or non degree certification in SLM. Take some time with this. Imagine that you are speaking to our Admissions Committee when you write this (it is usually the first thing that is read). This statement can be sent directly to the graduate coordinator at:

    Graduate Coordinator
Department of Educational Psychology and Instructional Technology
    The University of Georgia
    320 E. Clayton St., Suite 400

It is your choice who writes these letters, but keep in mind that these letters should be written by individuals who are able to speak about your professional qualifications and your potential for success in graduate study. These letters can be sent directly to the Graduate Coordinator at the address listed above. (Forms are included in the application packet from the Graduate School or from their Web site).

  8. Complete all of the required application materials so that they are received by the specific deadline dates listed in the individual program areas.
