Definition of Cohorts

Unlike all the other students in UGA's SLM programs, there is no specific cohort plan for you if you already have S5 certification in Library Media.  (We hope that one day, we will.)  However, you may certainly earn your Ed.S. in Instructional Technology with certification at the S6 level here.  The good news is that you will have a great deal of freedom and flexibility in the design of your program.

The first step is to meet with your advisor, who has up-to-date information about course offerings and can counsel you about how to provide advanced competencies for media specialists. The Ed.S. degree consists of a minimum of 30 semester hours.

The Advising Guide lists the following required courses:
Course
Typically Offered

EDIT 6360 Information Literacy in School Media Programs Spring and Summer
Online; Spring recommended (SLM students)
EDIT 6400 Emerging Approaches in Teaching, Learning, & Technology
Fall and Spring

EDIT 6900 Research Methods in Instructional Technology

EDIT 7340 Issues in School Media Programs

EDIT 7650 Applied Research Project in IT

Starting in 2006, we recommend that you take this class in summer with a group. Usually your last class.
EDIT 6320 Information Technology

These courses are highly recommended by the SLM faculty:

Course

EDIT 6380  Cataloging

2005: At Gwinnett for 5 full days in late May/early June; unless you had this course at UGA since 2001, highly recommended for updating and a fresh approach.

EDIT 7000
Summer into Fall
MediaTech: taught in cooperation with ETTC; meets 7 whole days spread over summer and fall; register during fall.  Satisfies state technology requirement; updates tech skills with SLM point of view
Other M.Ed. requirements

You may be required to take other M.Ed. level classes that we require for certification that you may have missed during your own master's degree program.

The remainder of your courses are electives.  You may take lots of electives of your own choosing and at your advisor's approval.  Typically, any graduate level course with a reasonable connection to the profession is appropriate.  The following list is a set of common choices.
Course

EDIT 7460  Internship

You may perform another internship with a new focus. For example, you might want to intern with a district slm coordinator or team teach a course with a professor.
