School Library Media (SLM)Mission The School Library Media emphasis area within the Learning, Design, and Technology Program provides individuals with professional level skills in the organization and application of resources to the solution of instructional problems within schools. This program is approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission to provide S5 and S6 certification for K-12 Library Media Specialists. It is nationally recognized (accredited) by the American Association of School Librarians. Objectives The School Library Media program provides opportunities for students to develop:
Employment Opportunities K-12 Education: Schools in Georgia (and many other states) require certified School Media Specialists. Application Deadlines M.Ed. and Ed.S. candidates seeking initial certification in SLM are considered part of the Flexible Delivery Cohort program. One Cohort of approximately 25 Students is admitted per year. Students begin their coursework in the Fall semester. Applications for Fall 2010 will be reviewed beginning February 1, 2010. Admission will continue until the desired cohort size of approximately 25 is met. There may be a small number of spaces in the current cohort available for late admission; contact slmedia@uga.edu for information. Ed.S. candidates who already possess Library Media Certification may be admitted during any semester. Deadlines are: Fall: July 1; Spring: November 15; and Summer: April 1. All application materials must be completed and received by the deadline to ensure a timely admission decision.
