Educational Psychology faculty member, Karen Samuelsen, and her colleagues in the College of Education were awarded a $2.95 million grant from the Institute of Education Sciences. The research grant will examine the effects of the Instructional Conversation (IC) model for improving the academic development and achievement of upper elementary English language learners (ELLs) from high poverty schools. The goal of this research is to study the effects of this model on academic development focusing on reading comprehension as a gateway for ELLs success. The project will involve approximately 150 teachers and 1,200 students from counties in Northeast Georgia with large numbers of ELLs and will be conducted over a four year period.
