Applied Cognition and Development (ACD)Martha M. Carr (Marty), Ph.D. I am currently a Professor for the Department of Educational Psychology and Instructional Technology and a coordinator of the Applied Cognition and Development program. My teaching interests include cognitive development. My research interests are: math strategies, gender, and metacognition. I am a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA) and a member of the Society for Research in Child Development, Cognitive Development Society, National Council for Teachers of Mathematics, and past-president of Women and Mathematics Education. I have served as principle investigator on several National Science Foundation grants dealing with predictors of mathematics achievement in early elementary school. I have edited a book entitled Motivation in Mathematics and have worked published in Educational Psychological Review, Learning and Individual Differences, Contemporary Educational Psychology, Journal of Research in Mathematics Education, Research in Middle Level of Quarterly and more. Louis Castenell, Professor Shawn Glynn is a Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology and Instructional Technology; he also holds a joint appointment in the Department of Mathematics and Science Education and served as its Interim Head. He teaches graduate courses in the psychology of learning. His area of research is the psychology of learning science. His books in this area include The Psychology of Learning Science and Learning Science in the Schools. His research appears in the Journal of Educational Psychology, Contemporary Educational Psychology, the Journal of Research in Science Teaching, and publications of the National Science Teachers Association such as The Science Teacher. He is on the editorial board of Contemporary Educational Psychology. He regularly serves as principal investigator on projects funded by the U.S. Department of Education. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and has been a Fulbright Senior Research Fellow (Germany), a German Academic Exchange Service Scholar, and a UGA Sarah Moss Fellow (England). Shawn M. Glynn Nancy F. Knapp Ph.D. I currently serve as Associate Professor for the Department of Educational Psychology and Instructional Technology. My Research Interests are: Early reading; Kids' perceptions of school; Teacher education; Educational reform. My publications include: In Defense of Harry Potter (in press), Educational Psychology as a Policy Science, Tom and Joshua, Transmission and Transaction, Lessons from J.P., and more. I am a member of the American Educational Research Association, International Reading Association, Invisible College of Research on Reading, National Reading Conference, and Phi Beta Kappa. Nancy Knapp, Ph.D. Paula J. Schwanenflugel, Ph.D. I currently serve as a Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology and Instructional Technology and faculty member in Applied Cognition and Development (ACD). My research interests include cognition and cognitive development, psycholinguistics, early reading and preliteracy, and vocabulary development. Paula J. Schwanenflugel Stacey Neuharth-Pritchett, Ph.D. I currently serve as a Professor of Educational Psychology and EPIT Graduate Coordinator. My research interests center on the contexts of early educational intervention, kindergarten retention, economically disadvantaged children's transition to school (particularly the Head Start population), and intervention for children with chronic health problems. I have served as the principal investigator, co-investigator on a number of externally-funded research projects on Head Start, early literacy, and teacher quality. I teach courses in educational research methodology, applied educational measurement, and seminars on psychological issues for young children placed at risk.
