Welcome |
How do I get started? You may start anytime during your senior year of high school up until admission to the teacher education program. If you are a transfer student, late applicant, or other non-traditional student, please contact the department or program to which you will be applying. Special accommodations (such as an extended timeline, or counting previous experiences) may be made in order for you to complete this requirement. First, think of your own interests, capabilities, limitations, background experiences, and goals. You are encouraged to find your own placements for your Early Community Experiences. Second, identify appropriate Early Community Experiences. You can ask your high school or college counselor or advisor for advice; search through phone books, web sites, and newspapers; ask family friends and neighbors; and contact local schools and agencies. Third, select at least two (2) Early Community Experiences that appeal to you and allow you an opportunity to experience a new setting and opportunities to interact with a wide range of people. Prior approval is NOT required from any UGA department or advisor. However, if you should have any questions, please contact the department to which you will be applying. Fourth, realize that you have the right to choose your Early Community Experiences, but you are also responsible for deciding if it is "right" for you. Use good judgment and common sense in ensuring that you are safe in every community and school situation. Do not place yourself in jeopardy. However, if you do not have a major in mind, there are two (2) documents you may complete that will comply with departmental requirements.
Complete the supervisor interview and the self-reflection forms as you perform your Early Community Experiences. All students are expected to follow and uphold the UGA Academic Honesty Policy. If required by the department or program:
