About the Council

Roles: The Dean’s Council on Diversity will provide leadership and support for the college’s multicultural education goals and help the college fulfill its Multicultural Education Mission.  This will be accomplished through membership of college faculty, staff and students who will engage in activities and events, as subcommittees, related to the following roles:
   
  Advisory    
    to the Dean
    to College Committees & functions (e.g. Faculty Senate, Curriculum, recruitment & retention)
    linkage to the Office of Institutional Diversity
       
  New Directions: development of the proposal for the Center for the Study of Culture, Equity and Diversity in Education and identification of external resources to support the proposal
   
  Programs    
    Seminars  
    Professional development for faculty, staff and students
    Conferences and workshops
       
Membership: The membership of the Dean’s Council on Diversity will be drawn from the College’s  faculty, staff and student body.  It is recommended that the membership be composed broadly and include: 
   
    Members of the New Directions Committee (7)
    Self and/or peer nominations from:
      1-2 faculty members per department
      4-6 staff total
      3-5 students, representing both UG and G
