About the Office of the Dean Office of Information Technology |
2000-2010 Strategic PlanAppendix C: Report of the Millennium Commission - PreambleThe Millennium Commission proposes the Next Great College of Education [COE] to students, staff, alumni, faculty, Deans, Provost, President, and community, business, and government representatives, which will open its doors with a revitalized vision and set of activities and programs that reflect a future role of greater leadership, scholarship, collaboration, contribution, and excellence in education. The College does this from a position of strength because it is already a national leader in the quality of programs, research, faculty, staff, and students. Our proposal will involve new forms of curricula, programs, assessments, and uses of technology. It will involve new balance and integration of both disciplinary and interdisciplinary work and commitments to new reward and recognition structures. It represents a further increase in attention to issues of diversity, multicultural education, service learning, international education, and the integration of teaching, research, and service so that each dimension connects to the others and adds value to addressing the educational and learning problems of Georgia and of our society at large. It will bring about small learning communities of students, staff, faculty, and alumni embedded in a large University that contains a universe of people and ideas. It will do this through an evolutionary process involving all of us. Finally, the College of Education that will open its doors in the future will signify to the state, region, nation, and world a new generation of Colleges of Education. This new generation of Colleges of Education will be one in which students, staff, alumni, and faculty continue to demonstrate how the knowledge of their fields combined with collaboration, problem solving, creativity, and leadership can improve services to children and adults and thereby improve the education of a society.
