Welcome!

As one of the largest and most diverse institutions of its kind in the nation, the College of Education at the University of Georgia serves as a pathway for thousands of aspiring young men and women into the professions of teaching, educational administration, organizational leadership, psychology, communication, exercise and health sciences.

Visit the College and you’ll find a community of faculty and students from a range of backgrounds who share a passion for exploring the worlds of education and health. It offers outstanding opportunities for students and faculty through its strong commitment to excellence in research, teaching and service.

As part of a research-extensive land- and sea-grant university, the College has a rich heritage of developing new knowledge, using it to improve education, and working to make education more equitable throughout Georgia and across the nation.

It is among the nation’s leaders in:

  • pioneering programs to elevate reading and writing skills for elementary school children;
  • developing initiatives to improve the performance and effectiveness of schools;
  • pursuing research to address how children learn and develop; and
  • using digital technologies to enhance the quality of teaching, student learning and materials for the classroom.

COE faculty integrate practice and research by maintaining close collaborations with administrators, teachers and policy makers. They frame policy discussions and serve as advisors at the state, national and international levels.

In recent years, the College’s research efforts have attracted more than $15 million annually in funding from state, federal and private sources. Funding agencies include the U.S. Department of Education, National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Annenberg Foundation, Carnegie Corporation and Spencer Foundation.

Our graduate programs overall are perennially ranked among the nation’s top 20 public universities. At least five of our programs – elementary education, secondary education, counseling and human development services, and vocational/technical education – have ranked among the top 10 for more than a decade. Four more have consistently ranked among the top 20.

The College is proud of its nearly 50,000 alumni, many of whom are K-12 and college and university teachers, counselors, administrators, special education teachers and professionals working in other important roles in the fields of education and health. Through these alumni, the College is able to touch the lives and influence the development of young people in the state of Georgia, across the nation and around the world.

We hope you find our web site helpful and encourage you to explore it. Should you decide to join us, you will share in the excitement of an environment for learning that is on the leading edge of educational reform and innovation.
