Our graduate programs rank individually among the nation’s best in 8 of 10 categories— 6 programs are ranked in the Top 10 and two more among the Top 15—out of 278 institutions.

Georgia COE 26th in number of African-American doctorates
Georgia COE ranks 26th nationally in the number of African-American doctoral degrees conferred among education colleges, according to Diverse Issues in Higher Education. UGA ranks 15th in the number of African-American doctorate degrees conferred among all disciplines. UGA also placed in the top 100 for African-American Master’s among all disciplines (2010).
Faculty in 7 doctoral programs among nation’s most productive
Seven Georgia COE doctoral programs are listed among the top 10 in the nation in the third annual Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index—a ranking of graduate programs at research universities based on what is purported to be the first objective measurement of per-capita scholarly accomplishment. Georgia COE programs cited and their rankings were:
- 2nd Higher Education/Higher Education Administration
- 4th Science Education
- 5th Health, Physical Education, Recreation
- 8th Mathematics Education
- 9th Teacher Education Specific
- 9th School Psychology
- 10th Educational Leadership and Administration
The ranking was based on ongoing scholarly productivity from among an index of 164,843 professors at 172 institutions across the country. Only six other UGA programs were ranked: Agronomy and Crop Science (10), Botany/Plant Biology (4), English Language and Literature (4), Languages (10), Management Information Systems (2) and Music (2) (2007).

Survey: UGA Math Education Doctoral Program Strongest in Nation
Georgia COE’s doctoral program in mathematics education is ranked as the strongest in the nation in a recent survey of more than 70 of its peer institutions. The study, supported by the Center for the Study of Mathematics Curriculum, was funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation (2007).

Kinesiology doctoral programs rank 14th
Georgia COE’s doctoral programs in kinesiology are ranked 14th in the nation in an evaluation last released by the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education (2006).
