Founded in 1908
The University of Georgia was among the first Southern universities to establish a school of education. Today, Georgia COE delivers top-quality instruction while providing its world-class faculty a climate for both basic and applied research and a service program designed to meet the needs of the educational and health communities of Georgia and beyond. Perennially ranked among the top education colleges in the country, Georgia COE is home to several nationally ranked programs.

High Quality Teacher Education Programs
Georgia COE prepares teachers who understand the content, how to manage a classroom, and have a passion for teaching and bringing the material to life. Our students are among the best on the UGA campus and many fill national leadership roles in their fields of study. That quality is reflected in the following numbers:
- 3.44 GPA of our entering undergraduates
- 3.48 GPA of baccalaureate graduates
- 3.83 GPA of graduate program completers
- 99% Percentage of students passing the teacher licensure (GACE) exam
High Teacher Production
Georgia COE admits large numbers of teacher education majors and is the highest producer of teachers in Georgia. In 2011:
- 747 new teachers prepared
- 321 advanced degrees awarded to practicing teachers
- 110 endorsements given in Gifted, Reading and ESOL
Preparation of Other Education-, Health-Related Professionals
Georgia COE also prepares school counselors, school leaders, speech pathologists, language specialists and school psychologists. In 2011, Georgia COE graduated:
- 115 professionals in the following fields: Communication Sciences & Disorders (21); Administrators (35); School Counseling (31); School Library Media (26); and School Psychologist (2)
- 436 in health-related professions such as physical therapy and pre-med, and community-based professions such as recreation and community psychology, and other fields such as adult education and technical college instruction
