About the Office of the Dean Office of Information Technology |
Dean's Student Advisory CouncilMission Statement: Formed in the spring of 2005, the Dean’s Student Advisory Council (DSAC) creates new spaces for student input and re-envisions student interaction within the decision-making structure of the College of Education at the University of Georgia. Composed of student representatives from each department, and representing all degree levels, the DSAC is actively engaged in providing student voices on committees, the budget development process, recruitment and retention of faculty, and in ensuring that the student experience is valued and maintained as a high priority of the Dean, faculty, and staff of the College. The DSAC is committed to making the College of Education at UGA a more democratic environment by promoting deliberation that is responsive to the student experience, and allows that experience to become a thriving part of the ongoing commitment to conducting quality research, preparing both pre-service and practicing teachers for classrooms in the twenty-first century, and to inspire doctoral candidates to find new spaces to expand their disciplines in the field of education. Purpose: The primary purpose of the Dean’s Student Advisory Council (DSAC) is to provide a line of communication between the graduate and undergraduate students in the College of Education and the Dean’s office. The DSAC would meet biannually throughout the academic year with the Dean and a staff representative. Topics include current academic and administrative matters, academic opportunities (international programs and study abroad), academic advising, and student support. The DSAC would also serve as a source for student nominations to campus-wide committees, honor societies, and awards, and as a cross-section of students when student opinion is needed by the Dean or the staff of the Dean’s office. Role of the Dean: The Dean would make himself available to answer any questions which members of the DSAC have about the College or the University, and the students provide the Dean and his staff with important input concerning all areas of the College of Education which impact student life.
