Professional Learning Unit (PLU)
CSSE Summer Institute participants will be able to earn 1.0 Professional Learning Unit (PLU) required for teacher certification renewal by the Georgia Department of Education. A PLU Prior Approval Form may be required by your school system. Click here to print the PLU Prior Approval Form.
A PLU is a unit of credit based on 10 contact hours of formal instruction or its equivalent and on verification that the intent of the formal instruction has been implemented. PLU credit, approved by the Georgia Department of Education Office of Professional Learning, is one type of credit that meets the requirements for teacher certification renewal in Georgia. The PLU requirement has been suspended for certain certificates with expiration dates between 6-30-11 and 6-30-15 (http://www.gapsc.com/Rules/Current/Certification/505-2-.206.pdf). You should check with your school system to determine if you should continue to earn PLUs during this time period.
The PLU process for this conference begins June 6, 2013 and ends July 7, 2013. To earn one PLU for the CSSE Summer Institute, participants should:
- Receive a sticker on the CE Attendance Verification form at the end of each session attended;
- Total contact hours received on the CE Attendance Verification form at the end of the Summer Institute;
- Complete the Professional Learning Unit Mastery Verification Project Form, which will be provided at the Summer Institute;
- Take forms to the CEU table at the end of the Institute;
- Receive verification of hours by a CSSE continuing education representative, who will record number of total contact hours earned at the bottom of the Mastery Verification Project Form;
- Leave the Mastery Verification Project Form at the CEU table or mail to the address provided on the form (postmarked by July 7, 2013). A CSSE PLU Course Completion Form with the 1.0 PLU credit will be mailed to the participant, if the requirements for the Mastery Verification Project and 10 contact hours have been met. Partial PLUs may not be awarded.
- Keep the original CE Certificate of Attendance Form and Prior Approval Form (if completed by your school system) in the event the PSC or the participant’s school system requests them.
