Masters Admissions Process
Application Eligibility The master’s degree program in Special Education is a restricted program that has room for approximately 40 students annually. Students who meet all of the following requirements are eligible to apply:

Earned, or will have earned, a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution before the date of enrollment at the University of Georgia

Minimum GRE total score of 850 (quantitative plus verbal) within the last 5 years

Minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.7 for all courses taken Applications from students who do not meet these minimum requirements will not be considered. Students to be admitted will be selected from among those who apply based on the faculty’s evaluation of undergraduate grade point average, GRE (and TOEFL. Where relevant) scores, quality of essay, letters of recommendations, and resume.
Application Requirements (due by January 3 or the first working day thereafter for full consideration, applications received after this date will be considered only if space is available)

Complete on-line application to the University of Georgia’s Graduate School. The online application to the Graduate School will include an application fee. It will ask you to specify the names of three persons who will then receive an email requesting an electronic letter of recommendation. It will also ask you to send official transcripts and have official GRE scores sent to the Graduate School. The Graduate School will send these documents to the Special Education program.

Complete a paper application to the Special Education program. Send the paper application, the essay it describes, and one copy of your resume to:

Final Admission Requirements – The students initially chosen for admission will be informed in writing of the final entrance requirements (see below) they must complete or maintain to retain their position in the new class. All other applicants meeting the initial admission requirements will be placed on a waiting list and so informed in writing. Applicants not meeting the initial admission requirements will be so informed in writing. Final Entrance Requirements (End of Spring Semester)

Notify the Department within 14 days of acceptance on plans to enroll in summer or fall.

Complete requirements for GACE (Basic skills assessment; passed either by test or exemption)

Maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.7 for courses taken at an accredited institutions
The Graduate Record Examination is administered by the Educational Testing Service, 20 Nassau Street, Princeton, New Jersey 08540, and various centers throughout the country.
