Birth through Five/Preschool School – BSED – Practicum and Student Teaching
Throughout the Birth through Five Program of study, students are enrolled in quality inclusive field placements. During their first three semesters, students will complete 9 hours per week of practicum work, completing assignments that are linked to their coursework. The final semester will consist of full-time student teaching with a certified teacher. Throughout the four semesters students will have a placement in each of the following age ranges: Infant/Toddler, Preschool, Pre-K, and Kindergarten. Student teaching will occur in an inclusive Pre-K, Kindergarten, or Preschool Special Education classroom with a certified teacher.
The Birth through Five Program has formal agreements with Clarke County School District’s Office of Early Learning, Madison County School District, Easter Seals of Northeast Georgia, and Babies Can’t Wait (Georgia’s Part C program) along with private preschool settings. These settings include children and families from high-poverty, rural, suburban and urban communities, providing our students with a wide variety of hands-on experiences throughout their time in the Birth Through Five Program.
Field Placements are arranged through the College of Education’s Student Services department. All students must have a criminal background check and Tort Liability Insurance completed through the Student Services department in order to be given a field placement. For more information click here
