American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) changes their minimum requirement to become a speech-language pathologist from a bachelor’s degree to a master’s degree. |

Mary Michael was the first; W. Ray Neal and Joan Berryman were second and third students to receive doctoral degrees – they received their Doctor of Education. |

Speech Pathology and Audiology within the Division for Exceptional Children (The Audiology Program was initiated in 1968, and the Education of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing Program became available in 1985) |
