Restricted Major Entrance Requirements
Application Requirements
All students seeking entrance to the Communication Sciences and Disorders (CMSD) Program must apply by the 3rd Friday of January of the same calendar year for which admission is sought. All application materials and documentation are due by the application deadline. The CMSD Undergraduate Admissions Committee will then meet to evaluate all applications with respect to the minimum criteria shown below. Students who do not meet these minimal requirements may apply and may be considered on a case-by-case basis, at the faculty’s discretion, after all students who meet the criteria have been considered, providing space is available. Each Fall Semester the CMSD Program will accept one cohort of 55 incoming students, who meet the minimum criteria shown below, to begin a four semester (Fall, Spring, Fall, Spring) sequence of course work in the major. Do not submit letters of recommendation as these will not be considered as part of the admission criteria. Application for Admission

Initial Acceptance

In order to hold a spot in the cohort, applicants must indicate in writing, within 15 business days of the date on the letter of initial acceptance from the CMSD program, their intent to enter the cohort. Failure to do so will result in being dropped from the cohort.

Final Acceptance Requirements (must be completed by the end of summer semester)

Appeals
To appeal an admission decision, a student must submit in writing to the Program Director of CMSD a statement that includes the reasons for appealing the decision and any supporting evidence. The student’s appeal will be considered within 2 weeks of the receipt of the written statement by the Program Director. A committee of three CMSD faculty/staff members (who did not serve on the Undergraduate Admissions Committee) will be appointed by the Program Director to consider the appeal. The student will be notified of the committee’s decision no more than 4 weeks after receipt of the written appeal. If you do not meet the minimum criteria (i.e., GPA, satisfactory completion of prerequisite courses at time of application, etc.), your appeal is unlikely to be successful.
Advisement Information
An overall grade point average of 3.2 or better is required of all students seeking admission to the CMSD program and an overall GPA of 2.75 or better must be maintained throughout the student’s program. If the GPA drops below 2.75, the student will not be allowed to take further CMSD courses until the GPA is raised to 2.75. A grade of C or better is required for all CMSD major courses and SPED 2000.
