Baldwin HallThe UGA Speech & Hearing Clinic moves to Baldwin Hall in 1963. It is housed there until 1968.

American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) changes their minimum requirement to become a speech-language pathologist from a bachelor’s degree to a master’s degree.

1966

Mary Michael was the first; W. Ray Neal and Joan Berryman were second and third students to receive doctoral degrees – they received their Doctor of Education.

1968

Speech Pathology and Audiology within the Division for Exceptional Children (The Audiology Program was initiated in 1968, and the Education of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing Program became available in 1985)

1980′s

CSD’s name during the 1980s is Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
The CSD department begins to follow the national trend and offer clinic work to graduate students instead of undergraduates

1980

Special Education & Speech Pathology and Audiology operate as a single unit within the Division for the Education of Exceptional Children. Program housed in the Psychology-Journalism building on north campus.

Special Education & Speech Pathology and Audiology broke into two separate entities within the Division for Exceptional Children – each was considered their own department.

Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and Department of Special Education joined Department of  Educational Psychology, Department of Instructional Technology and Department of Counseling to form the School of Professional Studies (George Hynd was first school director—later Cheri Hoy)
