Some Instructors may also be students. If so, they may see a screen like the one below that combines the COE Eval Instructor Area, the Evaluation Adminstration tools area, and the COE Eval Student Area.

4. In the COE Eval Instructor Area you may have one or more classes listed. Click on the "select course" button next to the course whose evaluation you are wanting to create.

5. You will then be taken to a page that has 4 links on it.

a. You can choose to "View the required questions in a new window." By clicking on this link, a new browser window will open with the required evaluations questions for you to review. When you have finished reviewing the required questions click on the Close This Window link found at the top and bottom of this page (shown below.) You will return to the page shown above, and will have to choose between "Add my own multiple choice and/or short answer questions to the evaluation" or "Finish my evaluation, these questions are sufficient."

You can also choose "Add my own multiple choice and/or short answer questions to the evaluation" (this option is NOT available for PEDB courses). By clicking on this link, you are taken to a new page that provides instructions for adding three of your own custom questions. Read the instructions for creating your own questions carefully.

You may choose to add none, one, two, or three of your own questions. Leave any unwanted questions on this page blank. When you have finished adding your own questions, click on the “Next” button at the bottom of this page. State your item so that the following scale can be used to capture the student response. The response “Almost Always” should represent best practice of the item statement.

Almost Never (worst)
Infrequently
Occasionally
Often
Almost Always (best)

optional question

Add your questions to the evaluation by typing your questions (in the correct format) in the blank provided. There is space for 3 optional questions. You may choose to add one, two or three questions. When you have finished adding your own multiple choice questions, click on the next button at the bottom of the page.

On the next page, you can add 2 optional short answer questions. Read the questions provided. If you would like to add one of them to your evaluation, just click the box next to the one that you would like to add. Again, you have the choice of adding none, one, or both of these questions. When you have finished adding short answer questions to your evaluation, click on the Next button at the bottom of the page.

optional short answer

On this page, you can add 3 optional custom short answer questions. These questions are completely open-ended; you put whatever questions you'd like here. If there is anything typed in the question fields, it will appear on the evaluation. When you have finished adding zero, one, two, or three short-answer questions to your evaluation, click on the Finish button at the bottom of the page.

There is one final step to perform on the "thank you" page, and that is to choose the opening and closing dates for the evaluation you just created. The dates must be at least one day apart, or it will give you an error message until they are. Choose the month, day, and year for the evaluation to start and end, and click the "set dates" button.

After the dates of the evaluation are set on the "thank you" page, you have several options as follows:

Click here to view your completed online evaluation in a new window.

This option allows you to review your evaluation. When you have finished, click on the Close This Window link found at the top and bottom of this page to return to the "thank you" page. You can go back to any part of the evaluation to make changes to your questions prior to publishing it.

Click here to return to the Main COE Eval Instructor Area.

This option takes you back to the main COE Eval Instructor Area where you can verify the start and end dates of your evaluation.

Click here to create an evaluation for another course.

This option also takes you back to the main COE Eval Instructor Area where you can choose another course to create an evaluation for.

c. Or, you can choose "Finish my evaluation, these questions are sufficient." By choosing this option, you skip the option of adding your own questions and will be taken to the "thank you" page.

6. Through the evaluation system you will be able to see which students have completed their online evaluation. To get this information, you will need to login to the system as before. Click on the select course button next to the course that you are wanting to retrieve submission information for. You will be taken to the first page of the evaluation wizard. The last link on this page is "View a list of students who have completed the evaluation." Click on this link to see which students have complete their evaluation.

7. When you no longer want students to have access to the evaluation you should not have to do anything, because you set the start and end dates when you created the evaluation. If you need to change the start or end dates for any of your evaluations, you can log in, click the "select course" button, then click "Finish my evaluation, these questions are sufficient" (this will not change the evaluation that you have created or any responses already submitted in any way), and simply reassign the new dates for either start, finish, or both. Click the "set dates" button, and the new start and finish dates for your evaluation are set.

8. After your grades have been submitted, you will be able to retrieve the evaluation data from your department's office manager, or other department designate.

If you are unsure who your department designate is, look at the department designate list.
