Aaron Named Among UM College of Education's 100 Distinguished Alumni

Professor emeritus in reading education Ira Aaron was recently named one of 100 Distinguished Alumni by the University of Minnesota College of Education and Human Development (CEHD).

Aaron, who helped begin the reading education program at UGA, served on the faculty at the College of Education for 37 years (1948-85). He was founder of the university's Reading Clinic, which remains one of the oldest continuously run reading clinics in the nation.

A national leader in the field of reading education, Aaron served as president of the International Reading Association and the Reading Hall of Fame, into which he was inducted in 1983. In his retirement he is a co-reviewer of award-winning children's books from around the world.

Aaron, who received his Ph.D. in reading education at the University of Minnesota, was among those honored during the CEHD's centennial celebration earlier this month. A native of Mille, Ga., Aaron earned both his M.Ed. and A.B.J. at UGA.
