Seminar English Literacy for Spanish Speakers February 22

A seminar designed to help all preservice teachers learn more about how to work with non-native English speakers in the classroom will be held on Tuesday, February 22 from 6-7:15 p.m. in 601 Aderhold Hall.

As the Latino population continues to increase in Georgia and across the nation, more Latino students are entering the classroom, making it essential for all teachers who may work with diverse populations to learn some of the characteristics of the Spanish language to better assist these students.

This session will begin with a presentation by Jere Beard, graduate student in TESOL, who will cover common errors produced in written English by native Spanish speakers and some of the differences between Spanish and English. A brief discussion with Beard and other ESOL experts will follow the presentation.

Refreshments provided.

This seminar is part of the Future Teacher Support Series, which is supported in part by the Georgia Systemic Teacher Education Program (GSTEP) and the President's Venture Fund.
