Delgado-Romero Receives Emerging Professional Award



Edward Delgado-Romero
, an associate professor in the department of counseling and human development services, has received a national award from the American Psychology Association (APA) for his work with Latino and other ethnic minority issues.

Delgado-Romero received the Emerging Professional Award from the Society for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues, APA Division 45. He was honored at a reception during the APA Annual Convention on August 19 in Washington, DC.

The award is given to an individual who has made outstanding contributions in the promotion of ethnic minority issues within 10 years of graduation. Delgado-Romero received the award based on his work in four areas: research, service, teaching/mentorship, and practice.

Delgado-Romero has written multiple research journal articles, book chapters, and one book. He is one of the re-founding members of the National Latino Psychological Association and also served as its treasurer. He chaired the Section on Ethnic and Racial Diversity for APA Division 17 (Counseling Psychology) and served on various Division 45 committees. His research interests include multicultural psychology, Latino psychology, race and ethnicity, faculty of color retention and multicultural competence.

He joined UGA's faculty from Indiana University in May 2005. He was a clinical assistant professor at the University of Florida from 1997-2002 before joining the faculty at Indiana University in counseling and counseling psychology from 2002-05. He received his Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Notre Dame in 1997.
