Deans' Forum Hosts Retreat in Norcross February 13-14

Faculty members in UGA's College of Education and College of Arts and Sciences -- who help prepare many of Georgia's future teachers will host a two-day retreat to discuss new challenges in teacher education. Speakers include: Kathy Cox, state superintendent of education; Alene McGill, executive director of PAGE (Professional Association of Georgia Educators); Doug Bachtel, UGA professor of housing and consumer economics and a demographics expert; and Joan Ferrini-Mundy, a faculty member working with Michigan State University's Teachers for a New Era project.

In addition, superintendents,  principals and high school teachers from different content areas from Hall and Gwinnett counties will have a conversation about recent changes they have experienced and what that has meant in terms of preparing teachers.

Second-day activities include panel discussions  with faculty and deans from UGA, Kennesaw State University and Georgia College and State University on how they are responding to changing needs and demands in A&S and education in Georgia. Forum groups will meet to discuss areas of interest based on issues raised during each session.
