![]() Schempp Named Distinguished Scholar by WVU Center Paul Schempp, director of UGA's Sport Instruction Research Laboratory, was recently named the 2004 Distinguished Scholar by The International Center for Performance Excellence at West Virginia University. Faculty at WVU's School of Physical Education selected Schempp as a Distinguished Scholar for the fall semester based on his research in the area of coaching and sports instruction. Schempp was invited to receive the award and deliver a lecture to faculty and students at WVU on October 29. Schempp, a professor of kinesiology, received his Ed.D. from Boston University and joined the UGA faculty in 1991. His research focuses on expert teaching in sport and physical education and the socialization of physical education teachers. For the last eight years, Schempp and his research team have helped analyze and select Golf Magazine's list of Schempp received the Mabel Lee Award for outstanding potential in scholarship, teaching and professional leadership by the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) in 1999. He was a Senior Fulbright Research Scholar in the fields of education and social theory in Germany in 1992. Wednesday, December 1, 2004
