De Chicchis to Co-Chair National Speech-Hearing Convention

Al De Chicchis, associate professor and director of the communication sciences and disorders program in UGA's College of Education, has been selected to serve as co-chair of the 2006 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) convention.

In this role, De Chicchis will chair the audiology and hearing sciences program for the national convention scheduled to be held in Miami from Nov. 16-18, 2006.

De Chicchis has also been recently selected as a site visitor for the Council on Academic Accreditation, which is the ASHA body that determines if audiology and speech-language pathology graduate programs meet accreditation standards.

De Chicchis also serves on the Georgia State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology since his gubernatorial appointment in 2001. He has chaired the board since January 2004.

De Chicchis, who joined the UGA faculty in 1990, specializes in physiologic and neurophysiologic measurement of the ear with an emphasis on aging. He received his doctorate from University of Memphis.
