CLASE Summer Institute June 22-27 at Amicolola Falls

The Center for Latino Achievement and Success in Education (CLASE) serves teachers, school districts, schools, students and parents. The Center works with teams of educators in schools and school districts with large Latino populations. CLASE has chosen its 2003 - 2004 Participant Teams. The following schools districts have educator teams that will participate in CLASE's activites:

  • Cherokee County School District
  • Cobb County Public Schools
  • Habersham County Schools
  • Gwinnett County Public Schools
  • Clarke County School District
  • Forsyth County Schools
  • Atlanta Public Schools
  • Fulton County Schools
  • Dekalb County School System
  • Hall County Schools

This summer, the Center will debut its first annual week-long institute providing needs-based training for empowering school-based teams to enhance Latino children's educational achievement in their school and community. Experts from UGA , the state and across the U.S. will staff these programs. Prior to the institute, each participating team will have assessed its local needs and resources, with support from Center faculty and pre-program site visits.

The summer program will include interdisciplinary training in enhancing first and second language acquisition, Latino cultural issues in education, and breakout sessions to address specific professional needs related to working with Latino students. Each team will be assisted in creating short- and long-term goals for their school or school community to enhance Latino children's educational achievement locally. eams will share their resources, challenges, and problem-solving goals to the rest of the participants.
